Set on Scenic Byway 74A, Southcliff overlooks the site of old Drovers Road. This historic trading route was used by farmers to drive their cattle and livestock to several markets, including those in Charleston, Columbia and Charlotte through Mine Hole Gap, continuing on to Hickory Nut Gap and beyond.

The present day Southcliff was once known as Hope Dairy, a small dairy farm owned and operated by the Earwood family throughout the 1940s and 50s. In 1963, the land was sold to Harry Bloomberg, a local businessman who preserved the property in its natural state. Forty years later, Bloomberg’s daughters sold the property in 2005, whereupon its current owners' vision of a private, gated-community, inspired by nature, began to take shape.
